Position Summary

A key member of the Consumer Marketing Science (CMS) team, the Statistician ensures that the research design, data collection, data analysis, report writing and presentation of findings are accurate and meet client expectations and project goals. The Statistician will apply statistics in the field of marketing research, serving as an internal consultant to research managers, research consultants, and R&D staff and as an external consultant to InsightsNow clients. Application of statistics may cover all phases of research projects including research design, data collection, data analysis, report writing and presentation of findings.

The Statistician reports to the Director - CMS.

Responsibilities
  • Provide non-routine data analyses of consumer product research data.
  • Assist CMS team members, Account Managers, and clients in the interpretation of data.
  • Assist CMS team members, Account Managers, and clients in the application of statistics to the design of research.
  • Customize Excel, PowerPoint, and Word tables and graphics to achieve client ready, presentation quality reports.
  • Develop and lead technical presentations for clients.
  • Develop and lead technical training for client and InsightsNow statisticians.
  • Work with mathematician and software engineers to develop new statistical algorithms and automate data analyses.
  • Create plans for data tabulation and analysis; proof-read data tabulations.
  • Assist or manage all phases of research projects from inception to conclusion (including survey design, data collection, data analysis, report writing and presentation of findings)
Requirements
  • Hypothesis testing (Analysis of Variance, Non-Parametric Testing, Analysis of Categorical Data)
  • Multiple linear regression modeling (Partial and Ordinary Least Squares Regression, Generalized Linear Modeling).
  • Multivariate data analysis and mapping (PCA, Factor Analysis, Discriminant Analysis, Cluster Analysis, Segmentation Analysis).
  • Design of experiments (Screening and Optimization designs for a mix of category and continuous variables, D-Optimal designs).
  • Optimization techniques.
  • Survey design and population estimation statistics.
  • Experience with quantitative research methods, in a consulting business environment, as applied to client consumer research and product development business processes.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Expertise with Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Confirmit; Ability to develop expertise with proprietary analysis, reporting, and CRM / project management software.
  • Expertise with SAS or SPSS, Matlab, HTML or Jscript, and JMP will be beneficial.
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally (approximately 5 - 10%).
  • Education:
    • MS or Ph.D. in Statistics, or
    • MS or Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology, Consumer Psychology or Experimental Psychology, or
    • MBA with Marketing Research emphasis or equivalent and two or more years experience on the supplier or client side.

  • Corvallis, Oregon – Headquarters office
Compensation
  • Compensation is a combination of salary and bonus earned through achievement of agreed objectives and Company profitability. Total compensation is based upon qualifications and results.
